It’s been a while since the Tuesday Cinema Club met but now Christmas and New Year obligations are over we should be back in the swing of things.
The first film of 2014 was American Hustle. I didn’t know much about the movie beforehand, only having seen a couple of adverts for it but the cast intrigued me.
I didn’t realise going into the movie that the story was based on true events.
Christian Bale was described to me as a Chameleon at the end of this movie. He is able to completely change himself into a character without you being able to see him. The character he plays in this movie is a fat older man who has an elaborate comb over to hide the fact he is bald. When you watch him playing the part you couldn’t imagine him being anything else.
The cast all played their parts well and I wasn’t surprised that the movie won 10 Bafta Nominations as there wasn’t a slow part in the movie. You were hooked on the story at the beginning and wanted to see where all the twists and turns would take you.
The only annoying thing as a woman watching the movie was the amount of time Amy Adams boobs were on display. I think her character could have worn less revealing tops and a bra on occasion and still played the part convincingly. But I’m being overly critical.
I’d give this movie a solid 5/5 and as the first movie of 2014 it has set a high standard for the rest to live up to.
