On reading the book cover I learned the book started out on Wattpad with readers making suggestions and helping to scope the outcome of the story. As a writer who would one day like to be published I think that is wonderful. When you are writing it’s hard to know if anyone will be interested in reading what you write, let alone people taking the time to help sculpt your writing into something saleable.
I enjoyed this book a lot, I’ve always been a sucker for a Vampire story, if you will excuse the pun. But this story took on a different direction from the Vampire stories I have read. Offering an almost plausible explanation for their existence, if you choose to believe.
At the heart of the story is a somewhat unlikely romance, with all the twists and turns you would expect from two people trying to work out their differences. Love is a hard path to tread and writing romance is harder still, making people want to care and hope for the characters but I enjoyed the path the story took.
I liked the depth of the characters and the explanation of different realms which seemed almost possible. Seeing as there are so many unexplained occurrences in our world with a little imagination it isn’t hard to come up with plausible answers. You just need to find like-minded people to believe with you.
The story is written in chapters from different characters viewpoints, in the main Violet and Kaspar. Having chapters written from different viewpoints it made it easier to get a more rounded view of the story, from the character’s perspective and I enjoyed the style of writing. It was easy to drop in and out reading a chapter here and there without losing track of the story.
I was curious about the author after reading the Wattpad connection so I did a little bit of research. It’s good to see that people who are unknown can post onto Wattpad and make a success of their writing, giving hope to other aspiring authors.
The book has now turned into a series with a lesser character who marked a crucial turning point in this story picking up the reins in the next. I look forward to reading Autumn Rose and seeing the continuation of the journey.
If you like Vampire stories then I would recommend The Dark Heroine.
