Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness

In the second book of the All Souls Trilogy Diana and Matthew head back in time to discover the true depths of her witches powers.

I enjoyed their trip back to Queen Elizabeth I’s England and getting to see a different side of some well-known characters, even if it was just an authors imagining.

I’m really enjoying the trilogy and starting the new year with the final part The Book of Life. There is a depth to the writing that goes beyond just taking you back in time, the author obviously put in a lot of work researching the authenticity of the time.

I’ve always had a fondness for witch and vampire stories and this imagining is rich and portrays the creatures as living among us in everyday life. If there was such things then it wouldn’t be hard to imagine them living in plain sight .
